Paula M. Lawhon, experienced divorce mediator in San Francisco, was recently featured on a KCBS News report, describing the shift towards divorce mediation and the advantages of mediation in today's troubled economy.
Some figures show fully litigated divorces costing upward of $75,000, while divorces resolved through mediation typically cost less than $7,500. This huge cost savings, in addition to the time and emotional savings, is one reason for the recent trend toward mediation of domestic issues.
Asked if she senses a shift in clients seeking out more collaborative methods of resolving disputes over traditional litigation, Paula responded…
"I think that when one person finds out that somebody that they knew did their divorce through mediation and that they got out of it under $10,000, versus somebody who says 'I just spent the last 2 and a half years in a litigated divorce and it's still not done and I'm paying so much in fees that it's ridiculous – I do sense a shift"…KCBS Full News Clip
The troubled economy has more and more couples considering divorce mediation when filing their San Francisco divorce. Mediation can be an effective way to resolve differences and move forward toward an enforceable agreement faster and cheaper than litigation.
