Choosing the right attorney involves a combination of both objective criteria, and subjective impression. The Los Angeles divorce law firm has to have the right skills, the right experience, the right references. And the lawyer has to “feel right” for you.

Subject Matter Expertise – To choose the right law firm assure that they have specific highly qualified subject matter knowledge in your area of concern. You wouldn’t have a construction worker drill your teeth. Similarly, hire a lawyer with vast divorce related experience to represent you in divorce proceedings.

Get References – Word of mouth is an important aspect in evaluating an attorney. Seek advice from others who have used the law firm. Assess their impressions.

Use Reliable Internet Attorney Search Services – There are several reputable online search services that provide feedback and ratings for individual lawyers. Use these to assess the attorney.

Availability – Contact the potential firm, and see how long it takes them to get back to you. If it takes weeks, they are too busy to handle your case.

Your comfort level – Meet with the lawyer you are thinking of working with and evaluate that lawyer yourself. Assess if this person “hears” what you are saying, is sympathetic, professional, sufficiently active. See if this person has the right temperament you feel comfortable working with. Trust your senses.
